If you heard the ESPN Speedworld theme coming from your TV, you knew you were gonna be in for an awesome afternoon/evening of racing.

ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports, in cooperation with the International Motorsports Association, is proud to present...

Hello again everyone, I’m Bob Varsha...

Ah, the sounds of a happy youth. Great coverage, and they covered everything.

All a question of age and location, I guess. For some of us, this is the sound of motor racing:

Of course that was back in the days when F1 actually was exciting

Oh yeah, of course it’s definitely a regional thing.

ESPN used the Speedworld music from the early 80’s up til about 2004, iirc. The difference between the Speedworld theme and The Chain was that The Chain was only used for the BBC’s Formula One coverage, while the Speedworld thing was used for everything under the Speedworld programming banner on ESPN, which included F1, Indycar, CART, the IRL, NASCAR, IMSA competition, and various professional drag racing events as well.
